Department of Rehabilitation Medicine provides teaching on the subject of rehabilitation medicine in the curriculum for a diploma of medical doctor. There are both compulsory and optional subjects for the 5th and 6th-year medical students. The primary objectives are to learn the principles and treatment modalities in rehabilitation medicine including basic and clinical skills in rehabilitation medicine, to be able to apply and integrate knowledge in clinical practice through a holistic approach management, and to know the indications for referral to rehabilitation specialists as well as networking and referral system. There are regular course feedbacks and evaluations as well as an annual review in order to modify, adjust, and update it to be proper with the context of Thai society, public health policy, the level of clinical year and students’ needs. Over the last year, the teaching method in each subject was adjusted to be more active learning and used the online study material (SELEC program) in order to be appropriate for the 21stcentury medical students.
Postgraduate Program
Our department has established a residency training program in rehabilitation medicine under the supervision of the Medical Council of Thailand since 1988. So far, one hundred and eighteen resident trainees have graduated and got a certified diploma. Currently, our curriculum, including both compulsory and elective rotations, is relevant to competency-based learning. Portfolio, Direct Observation Procedural Skill (DOPS) and Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA) have been used to monitor, follow up, evaluate and feedback our trainees in their progress of knowledge and skills, working, learning and training as well as their well-being. Moreover, extra-curricular activities have been added in order to improve their health condition, social skills, general knowledge, and life experiences. For quality assurance, our program is annually monitored and evaluated by the internal organizations both EdPEx and MUQD. Moreover, our department provides funding support for our resident trainees to do their elective training overseas; Over the last year, about half of our third-year-residents had clinical experiences in Australia, England , and Taiwan.

Department of Rehabilitation Medicine was officially established on September 15th, 1993 as the 19thdepartment in the Faculty of Medicine , Siriraj Hospital. Currently, the office is on the 9th floor of Srisangwan Building, Siriraj Hospital. Since then, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine has continually generated and developed services from 1949 until now. On February 4, 2004, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine opened the 11th-floor inpatient rehabilitation ward at Chalermprakiat Building. The service included the intensive rehabilitation treatment of the patients over 15 years old such as paralytic patients and amputees.
Continuously, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine provides rehabilitation service as holistic care to the patient by multidisciplinary team, as one of the core leader to direct Thai society in healthcare and physical capability recovering that enhance people’s quality of life. All department members attempt to conduct excellent research and develop new knowledge to be benefit to people’s health within the department vision. To serve the vision, the department set objectives to produce worldwide standard doctors, specialist doctor in rehabilitation– who would be able to effectively and properly generate advantages to public, also continuously develop themselves. The most important is that they must have morality and social responsibility and always treat others well following the phrase which means to be concern of other’s feeling.
