During November 9th – 12th, 2022, Prof. Aasis Unnanuntana, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “22nd National Congress of Indonesian Orthopaedic Association 2022″ in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia, as a guest speaker on the topic “Clinical Application of RANK-Ligand Inhibition in Osteoporosis: Denosumab” and “A comprehensive Treatment of Elderly Hip Fracture.”

Siriraj Faculty Abroad at “10th Fragility Fracture Network Global Congress 2022”

Prof. Aasis Unnanuntana, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and the President of the Fragility Fracture Network Thailand, attended the “10th Fragility Fracture Network Global Congress 2022” in Melbourne, Australia, between October 20th – 22nd, 2022, as a representative from Thailand and gave an oral presentation on the topic “Quality of Life and Depression Status of Caregivers of Fragility Hip Fracture Patients During One Year After Hip Fracture Treatment.” During the presentation, Prof. Aasis received positive feedback from the audience and shared experiences with other panelists for potential future research projects.

During October 13th – 15th, 2022, Prof. Aasis Unnanuntana, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “66th Annual Congress of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 2022″ in Seoul, Republic of Korea, as a speaker from Guest Nation (Thailand) on the topic “Comprehensive Treatment of Femoral Neck Fracture in the Elderly.”

On September 2nd, 2022, Prof. Dr. Prasit Watanapa, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, along with Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery; Prof. Thawatchai Akaraviputh, Deputy Dean of Administration Division; Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for International Relations; Prof. Kulkanya Chokephaibulkit, Director of Siriraj Institute of Clinical Research (SICRES); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vitoon Chinswangwatanakul, Director of Siriraj Cancer Center; Assoc. Prof. Sith Sathornsumetee, the Manager of Siriraj Center of Research Excellence Management Unit (SiCORE-M); and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adada Methasate from Siriraj’s Minimally Invasive Surgery Unit; visit the Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine, University of Tokyo, to meet Prof. Shigeo Okabe, Dean of the Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine, and his administrative members to discuss on the collaboration between Siriraj and the Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine, The University of Tokyo.

Siriraj Visits National Center for Global Health and Medicine

On September 2nd, 2022, Prof. Dr. Prasit Watanapa, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, along with Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Chairman of Department of Orthopaedic Surgery; Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for International Relations; Prof. Kulkanya Chokephaibulkit, Director of Siriraj Institute of Clinical Research (SICRES); and Assoc. Prof. Sith Sathornsumetee, the Manager of Siriraj Center of Research Excellence Management Unit (SiCORE-M); visited the National Center for Global Health and Medicine (NCGM) to discuss with Prof. Dr. Norihiro Kokudo, President of the NCGM, and his administrative members, on the future clinical research between Siriraj and NCGM including the “ARISE Network (ARO Alliance for ASEAN & East Asia)” which has been established to promote the Multi-Regional Clinical Trial (MRCT) in the Asian region.

On September 1st, 2022, Prof. Takanori Kanai, Dean of Keio University School of Medicine, and Mr. Hiroki Yamamoto of the International Office, Keio University School of Medicine, welcomed the administrative members of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, led by Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Chairman of Department of Orthopaedic Surgery; Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for International Relations; Prof. Kulkanya Chokephaibulkit, Director of Siriraj Institute of Clinical Research (SICRES); Assoc. Certification Ceremony for Siriraj Short Training Program

Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, along with Assoc. Prof. Roongsak Limthongthang, Chief of the Division of Hand and Microsurgery, delivered a certificate of completion to Dr. Edward George Jeans, an orthopedic surgeon from Wrightington Hospital, UK, who successfully completed a short training program “14-Week Clinical Observership Training Program in Hand and Microsurgery” at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery from April 4th to July 8th, 2022.

Short Training Program at Siriraj’s Orthopaedic Surgery

Welcome, Dr. Edward George Jeans from Wrightington Hospital, United Kingdom, to undertaking the “Clinical Observership Training Program in Hand and Microsurgery” at the Division of Hand and Microsurgery, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Roongsak Limthongthang during April 4th – July 8th, 2022. Dr. Jeans aims to understand the topic as follows:
1.) The diagnosis and investigation of peripheral nerve injury.
2.) In-depth knowledge and exposure to the decision making process around when to operate in cases of peripheral nerve injury
3.) Practical experience of peripheral nerve surgery
– Primary nerve repair
– Nerve grafting
– Nerve transfer
– Tendon transfer
– Free muscle transfer
4.) Experience of the patient journey from injury through surgery to rehabilitation and return to function.

Siriraj Attended “SEA, HK, and India Bone Academy Webinar”

On February 22nd, 2022, Prof. Aasis Unnanuntana, Chief of Metabolic Bone Disease Clinic, Department of Orthopaedics Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended South-East Asia, Hong Kong, and India Bone Academy webinar “Practical Approaches to the Management of Imminent Fracture Risk”. Prof. Aasis has joined the session “Panel Discussion With Your Country Experts” to discuss challenges for romosozumab use in clinical practice and how to mitigate challenges with other renowned experts.
