Welcome, Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Puja Thapa, an anesthesiologist from Shree Birendra Hospital, Nepal, to attend the short training course, “2-Week Clinical Observership Program in Pain Management” at the Siriraj Pain Management Clinical Training Center, Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, from August 16th – 31st, 2023, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Nantthasorn Zinboonyahgoon, Director of the Siriraj Pain Management Clinical Training Center. Dr. Thapa’s objective is to enhance and elevate the pain management services for the people of Nepal after she completes this program.

Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations, welcomed Prof. Dr. Lorna Elizabeth Edmunds, Head of Glaucoma Division, Casey Eye Institute, Oregon Health & Science University, USA, to serve as the visiting scholar at the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, sharing her expertise in Glaucoma and Pediatric Glaucoma starting from August 15th-19th, 2023.

Between August 3rd – 4th, 2023, Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, M.D., Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Assoc. Prof. Sith Sathornsumetee, M.D., Deputy Dean for Research and Innovation, Assoc. Prof. Oranee Sanmaneechai, M.D., Asst. Prof. Woraphat Ratta–apha, M.D., Asst. Prof. Tachjaree Panchalee Boonbowornpong, M.D., Deputy Manager of Siriraj Center of Research Excellence Management Unit (SiCORE–M), Prof. Rungroj Krittayaphong, M.D., from SiCORE-Cardiovascular Diseases (SiCORE-CVD), and the researchers from COhort of antithrOmbotic use and clinical outcomes in patients with Atrial Fibrillation (COOL-AF) phase 2 COOL-AF convened the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) onsite visit in 2023!

We received the honor from SAB members: Prof. Gregory YH Lip, from the University of Liverpool and Assoc. Prof. Jin Joo Park, from Seoul National University, to be special guest speakers. The Onsite Visit program commenced with inspiring lectures, followed by the research progress presentations and an output summary of ongoing projects from the research network. Then, the research facility tour, such as SICRES, could bring potential research collaboration in clinical trials. Another impressive session was the close discussion with the Dean and the Executives, which brought several noteworthy comments and recommendations to leverage the research quality that should be extendable for a national impact.

In this regard, SiCORE–M team and SiCORE–CVD would like to express our sincere appreciation to SAB members for their valuable time and continuing support. We are always enthusiastic to learn from your expertise and experience.

Siti Aminah TSE, M.Kes, SpKK.,  Vice Dean of human resource and funding; dr. Ika Setyawati, MSc School of Medicine Program Study Secretary; dr. Ikhlas M. Jenie, PhD., Head of Quality Assurance; and dr. On July 24th – 25th, 2023, Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, M.D., Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Assoc. Prof. Sith Sathornsumetee, Deputy Dean for Research and Innovation, Assoc. Prof. Oranee Sanmaneechai, Asst. Prof. Dr.Woraphat Ratta–apha, Asst. Prof. Tachjaree Panchalee Boonbowornpong, Deputy Manager from Siriraj Center of Research Excellence Management Unit (SiCORE–M), and Assoc. Prof. Panisadee Avirutnan, Ph.D., Director of SiCORE-Dengue and Emerging Pathogens (SiCORE-Dengue), hosted the inaugural Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) Onsite Visit in 2023, which took place at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital. We were grateful to the SAB members for SiCORE-Dengue, namely Prof. Xiao Ning Xu from Imperial College London and Prof. Andrew McMichael from the University of Oxford, for their valuable time, insightful comments, and contributions.

The SAB Onsite Visit Program was full of interactive activities, including inspiring and motivating lecture sessions from both SAB members to all participants—followed by a Lab Facility tour, Research projects consultation, and a Close discussion with Dean and Deputy for Research and Innovation.

We derived several thoughtful comments and practical recommendations from the SAB members during the meeting. This information will significantly benefit our strategic research management and develop the research support mechanism.
