On March 27th, 2023, the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, held special lecture series by Prof. Luisa Maria Bellussi, Honorary President of the Italian Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology on the topic “Medical therapy of OSAS”; Prof. Maria Pia Villa, Professor of Pediatrics, University of Rome, Italy, on the topic “Nasal obstruction in Childhood”; and Prof. Desiderio Passali, IFOS Past President on the topic “Oxidative stress in OSAS and Snores patients”.

Siriraj Faculty Abroad at ISICEM 2023 in Belgium

During March 19th – 26th, 2023, Asst. Prof. Onuma Chaiwat, a Vice-Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the annual meeting “42nd Internacional Symposium on Intensive Care& Emergency Medicine” in Brussels, Belgium, to present a poster presentation on the topic “Long-term Outcomes of Delirium in Critically Ill Surgical Patients: A Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study.” This attendance of Asst. Prof. Onuma will implement the prevention protocol to attenuate poor long-term outcomes for Siriraj Hospital!

The International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine is organized in collaboration with the Departments of Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine of Erasme University Hospital, Université Libre de Bruxelles, and with the Belgian Society of Intensive Care Medicine (SIZ). The meeting is held every year in March, starting in 1980, to provide participants with up-to-date reviews of the most recent, clinically relevant, developments in research, therapy, and management of the critically ill. The meeting is open to all physicians, nurses, and other health professionals interested in critical care or emergency medicine and attracts more than 6,200 participants from countries worldwide.

Siriraj Attended the APTS 2023 Congress

The faculties of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended “The 4th Congress of Asia-Pacific Society of Thyroid Surgery (APTS) – Thyroid: Controversies to Consensus” in Kochi, Kerala, India, between March 23rd – 26th, 2023, and participated this congress with different activities as follows:

Assoc. Prof. Warut Pongsapich delivered an oral presentation on “Clinical Value of Using Intraoperative Nerve Monitoring in Thyroid Surgery by Low Experience Surgeons: A Randomized Controlled Trial.”

Clin. Prof. Cheerasook Chongkolwatana was invited as a guest speaker to deliver a special lecture on “Surgical Complications of Thyroid Cancer Invading Trachea.”

Lect. Dr. Prachya Maneeprasopchoke delivered a special lecture on “Using Intraoperative Nerve Monitoring in TOETVA.”

Dr. Parnwad Chairat presented a research e-poster on “Stimulation Probes Used for Intraoperative Nerve Monitoring in Endoscopic Thyroidectomy: A Comparison Study of Efficacy and Safety in Porcine Model” (the e-poster was supervised by Lect. Dr. Paveena Pithuksachai and Clin. Prof. Cheerasook Chongkolwatana.)

The 4th Congress of Asia-Pacific Society of Thyroid Surgery (APTS) 2023 covered all aspects of thyroid and parathyroid disorders, cutting-edge knowledge and techniques, and strengthened friendships between members.

Siriraj Attended the 1st Spring Symposium of the Korean Society of Geriatric Musculoskeletal Medicine (KSGMM)

On March 25th, 2023, Prof. Aasis Unnanuntana from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University delivered a presentation as an invited speaker on the topic “Fragility Hip Fracture: Clinical Epidemiology and Orthogeriatric Approach” at the 1st Spring Symposium of the Korean Society of Geriatric Musculoskeletal Medicine (KSGMM) at Seoul Dragon Hotel in Korea.

Dr. Nuanprae Kitisin of the Department of Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “42nd International Symposium On Intensive Care & Emergency Medicine (ISICEM)” in Brussels, Belgium, to deliver a poster presentation.

Prof. Natthida Owattanapanich from the Division of Trauma Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and delivered an E-Poster presentation on the topic “The Potential Benefit If Partial TEBOA in Traumatic Hemorrhagic Shock Patient: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis” at the “42nd Internacional Symposium on Intensive Care& Emergency Medicine” in Brussels, Belgium, between March 21st – 24th, 2023. The feedback and discussions during the presentation will significantly benefit patient care at the Trauma Surgery Clinic, Siriraj Hospital!

MUIC X SIRIRAJ: Health Innovation Collaboration!

On March 23rd, 2023, Prof. Banchong Mahaisavariya, the President of Mahidol University, along with Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, and Prof. Chulathida Chomchai, the Dean of Mahidol University International College (MUIC), presided over the opening ceremony and signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the collaboration in curriculum development, teaching, academic activities, and research for a co-developed new minor study program called “Minor in Designing Health Innovations”!

The “Minor in Designing Health Innovations” is created for MUIC undergraduate students and consists of five subjects: “Community Health Innovations”; “Design Thinking in Health”; “Case Studies in Health Innovations”; “Cutting-Edge Technology for Health Innovations”; and “Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Science”. These five courses will enhance the students’ creativity and entrepreneurial mindset and gradually transform them into innovators with a culmination of medicine, health, and wellness knowledge!
