Short Training at Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Elective Study at Department of Surgery

Welcome, Dr. Redentor Bate Magdayao from Schistosomiasis Hospital Palo, Leyte, Philippines to attend the short training course under the Siriraj Scholarship for ASEAN and Developing Countries at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology from  April 3rd–  June 30th, 2023 and Dr. Sanjib Tripathee from Grande City Hospital, Kathmandu, Nepal to attend the short training course under Siriraj Scholarship for Doctors from ASEAN and Developing Countries at the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Department of Surgery from April  3rd – 28th, 2023.

From April 3rd-28th, 2023, Ms. Rikako Kai and Mr. Reo Kimura from Toho University, Japan are also going to undertake an elective study at the Department of Surgery.

Siriraj’s MIS Team Attended the SAGE 2023 Annual Meeting in Canada

The Minimally Invasive Surgery Unit, Department of Surgery, led by Prof. Thawatchai Akaraviputh, Deputy Dean and Director of Siriraj Medical School, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, along with Dr. Chawisa Nampoolsuksan, Dr. Nathawadi Techalertsuwan, and Dr. Nattida Sapsamarn, attended the annual meeting, “SAGES 2023: INNOVATION FOR THE sAGES!” hosted by the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) in Montreal, Canada, during March 29th – April 1st, 2023. The SAGES 2023 features hands-on longitudinal courses on the duodenal switch, the use of fluorescence, and various imaging procedures, as well as POEM/POP. The SAGE 2023 also highlights sessions on bariatric, foregut, hernia, colorectal, hepatobiliary, and acute care surgery hot topics, and Siriraj MIS Team has delivered the presentations and e-poster on the topics as follows:

Dr. Chawisa Nampoolsuksan on three topics: “Laparoscopic Cystectomy for Foregut Duplication Cyst”; “Laparoscopic Retrocaval Paraganglioma Tumor Removal with IVC hanging Technique”; and an E-Poster “Aerosol Protection Using Modified N95 Respirator for Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy: A Randomized Controlled Trial.”

Dr. Nathawadi Techalertsuwan on “Laparoscopic  Management for Small Bowell Obstruction caused by Mesodiverticular Band.”

Dr. Nattida Sapsamarn on “Laparoscopic Morgagni Hernia Repair (Hand-Sewn technique) with Mesh Reinforcement.”

 

International Academic Conference “Integrated Self Care and Care for Older People”

During March 30th-31st, 2023, the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University hosted the International Academic Conference “Integrated Self Care and Care for Older People” in collaboration with the Thai Society of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine and Abbott at the SiMR building, brought together experts in the field of gerontology and geriatric medicine to discuss advancements in healthy aging and self-care for the elderly.

The conference was opened with remarks from Prof. Suroj Supavekin, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Assoc. Prof. Winai Ratanasuwan, Director of Siriraj Institute of Clinical Research (SiCRES) and Chairperson of the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Prof.Prasert Assantachai, Assoc.Prof. Weerasak Muangpaisan from the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, and Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, the Deputy Dean for Corporate Communications and International Relations.

The keynote lecture of the conference was delivered by Dr. Austen El-Osta, Director of the Self-Care Academic Research Unit (SCARU) at Imperial College London, UK on the topic “A whistlestop tour of ICOPE concept, self-care & person-centered care” and “Self-care policy & practice”. In addition, a workshop on “Self-care & Self-management guideline for individual, family, community & in-hospital setting” was led by Prof. Prasert Assantachai, Prof. Weerasak Muangpaisan, Asst. Prof. Patcharawan Srisilapanan, Asst. Prof. Suwimol Sapwarobol, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kwanjai Amnatsatsue, and Dr. Arunee Laiteearpong.

Siriraj Faculty Aboard at American Society for Laser Surgery and Medicine (ASLMS) meeting 2023

Congratulations! Dr. Ya-Nin Nokdhes, a clinical fellow in Laser & Dermatologic Surgery from the Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, and Dr. Supisara Wongdama, a second-year resident from the Department of Dermatology for receiving educational support scholarship to present the studies at the American Society for Laser Surgery and Medicine (ASLMS) meeting 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona during April 13-16, 2023.

The 42nd American Society for Laser Surgery and Medicine (ASLMS) Annual Conference is the top international meeting in medical lasers and energy-based technologies by the world-leading organization in promoting research, education, and high standards of clinical care by advancing the biomedical application of lasers and energy-based technologies.

At this meeting, Dr. Ya-Nin Nokdhes will deliver a presentation on the research topic “Efficacy and Safety of Fractional 1064-nm Picosecond Laser for the Treatment of Mammoplasty Scar in Asians: A Prospective Randomized, Split-Side Comparative Study”, while Dr. Supisara Wongdama will present her study on the topic “Efficacy and safety of non-ablative monopolar radiofrequency for the reduction of facial pores and sebum excretion”

Siriraj International Residents & Fellows Exchange Program 2023

On March 29th, 2023, the Committee of Siriraj International Residency & Fellow Exchange Program: Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, MD, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations; Assoc. Prof. Thawornchai Limjindaporn, MD, PhD., Deputy Dean of Postgraduate Education; and Assoc. Prof. Chantacha Sitticharoon, PhD, Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Education, has conducted an interview session for “Siriraj International Residency & Fellow Exchange Program 2023 (round 3)” to the 1st-Year Fellows: Doctor Theeradej Tepkasetkul of the Department of Medicine, and Doctor Poramin Theanpramuk of the Department of Surgery, and following by a reviewing session on a reflection report of “Siriraj International Residency & Fellow Exchange Program 2023 (round 1)” presented by the 2nd-Year Resident from the Department of Anesthesiology: Doctor Suttata Boonyakarn, on her training experience at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, UK, between January 1st – 31st, 2023; and the 3rd-Year Resident from the Department of Radiology: Doctor Tissana Prasartseree, on his training experience at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, USA, between January 28th – March 4th, 2023.

 

CAMPUS Asia 2023 International Symposium & Alumni and Faculty Meeting!

On March 28th, 2023, Prof Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, along with Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations, attended the online meeting “CAMPUS Asia 2023 International Symposium & Alumni and Faculty Meeting” hosted by Guangdong Pharmaceutical University (China), and other CAMPUS Asia’s consortium universities: Tsinghua Medicine (China), Osaka University (Japan), National Center for Global Health and Medicine/IGHP (Japan), Yonsei University (Korea) Peking University (China), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China), and Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (China). On this occasion, Asst. Prof. Somponnat Sampattavanich, Ph.D., also delivered a research presentation on “Siriraj precision oncology program and core technology platforms for system-based drug discovery”.
The CAMPUS Asia (Collective Action for Mobility Program of University Students in Asia) is a cross-border student mobility program among Korea, Japan, and China, initiated by the agreement of the Summit Meeting of Korea, Japan, and China in 2010. The program aims to strengthen networks among academic institutions of higher education in Asia and promotes student exchanges through joint and double degree programs and exchange programs.
