Welcome, Mr. Cheat Sopheak and Mr. Khean Mengkorng, the 5th-year medical students from International University, Cambodia, to undertake an elective study at the Department of Anesthesiology from October 2nd – 13th, 2023. Mr. Sopheak will participate in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from October 16th – 27th, 2023, while Mr. Mengkorng will participate in the Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.

September 7th – 9th, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Nantthasorn Zinboonyahgoon, M.D., Chairman of the Division of Pain Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, took part in ‘The IASP Neuropathic Pain Special Interest Group (NeuPSIG)’ in Lisbon, Portugal, presenting a poster on “Efficacy of Spinal Cord Stimulation.” This event further solidified Siriraj Hospital’s global recognition.

The IASP Neuropathic Pain Special Interest Group (NeuPSIG) advances the understanding of mechanisms, assessment, prevention, and treatment of neuropathic pain. The NeuPSIG 2023 International Congress is the leading meeting for the latest research and developments in understanding the mechanisms, assessment, prevention, and treatment of neuropathic pain. This meeting brings together key stakeholders in neuropathic pain to discuss, network, and strengthen scientific collaboration.

Faculty Abroad at 6th World Congress on Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine

During September 5th-9th, 2023, Prof. Suwimon Tangwiwat from the Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, showcased her exceptional abilities as an instructor during the “6th World Congress on Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine” in France. During the cadaver workshop, Prof. Suwimon played a crucial role as an instructor, sharing her extensive knowledge of abdominal wall block techniques. In addition, she also volunteered as an instructor in the QL block workshop, showcasing her expertise in the field.

Furthermore, Prof. Suwimon’s contributions extended to the “Simulation Workshop: epidural anesthesia” and “Simulation Workshop: continuous perineural catheter,” where she demonstrated her proficiency and dedication to advancing the anesthesiology field.

This event was a Joint Meeting that was organized by four different societies: the American Society of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA Pain Medicine), the Latin American Society of Regional Anaesthesia (LASRA), the Asian & Oceanic Society of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine (AOSRA – PM), and the African Society of Regional Anaesthesia (AFSRA). It was held simultaneously with the 40th ESRA Annual Congress.

Siriraj Faculty Abroad at the 18th CAST Congress in Hong Kong

August 25th – 28th, 2023, Asst. Prof. Parichat Tovikkai, M.D., a lecturer of the Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended ‘The 18th Congress of the Asian Society of Transplantation (CAST)’ in Hong Kong, China, and presented an oral presentation on the topic “The Association of Intraoperative Hypotension During Orthotopic Liver Transplantation and Post-transplant Outcomes.” This conference is renowned as one of the most prestigious in Asia. Only 10 abstracts related to liver transplantation were selected for oral presentation and Asst. Prof. Tovikkai’s abstract was among them! This accomplishment underscores Siriraj Hospital’s recognition as one of Thailand’s most successful liver transplantation centers and possibly throughout Southeast Asia!

The 18th Congress of the Asian Society of Transplantation (CAST) is a biannual transplant congress of the Asian Society of Transplantation, aiming to provide transplant clinicians with a broad program covering a diverse range of topics, from cutting-edge science to ethical issues in transplant. Issues related to challenges in developing transplant programs and promoting organ donation in Asia will also be a highlight of this meeting.

Clinical Observership Program in Pain Management at Siriraj

Welcome, Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Puja Thapa, an anesthesiologist from Shree Birendra Hospital, Nepal, to attend the short training course, “2-Week Clinical Observership Program in Pain Management” at the Siriraj Pain Management Clinical Training Center, Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, from August 16th – 31st, 2023, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Nantthasorn Zinboonyahgoon, Director of the Siriraj Pain Management Clinical Training Center. Dr. Thapa’s objective is to enhance and elevate the pain management services for the people of Nepal after she completes this program.

Siriraj International Fellowship in Clinical Pain Management 2023

Welcome, Dr.Ruth F. Lopez from the Philippines, and Dr.Asadh Mohamed Shaheed from Maldives, the Scholarship recipients of “Siriraj International Fellowship in Clinical Pain Management” at Siriraj Pain Management Clinical Training Center, Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, from August 3rd, 2023 – July 31st, 2024, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Nantthasorn Zinboonyahgoon and Assoc. Prof. Pramote Euasobhon.

Jointly sponsored by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and the World Federation of Societies for Anaesthesiologists (WFSA). Siriraj International Fellowship in Clinical Pain Management is a hands-on one-year fellowship that trains an outstanding multidisciplinary clinician in pain management, treatments, and assessments for application in low-resource countries.

Siriraj Faculty Abroad at the “American Delirium Society 2023 Annual Conference” in USA

On June 12th, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Onuma Chaiwat, the Vice-Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, was invited as a guest speaker to deliver a clinical presentation on the topic “Delirium Predictive Model in Patients Admitted to Surgical Intensive Care Units” at the Main Conference of the “13th Annual American Delirium Society Conference: Engage, Enhance, Evolve: Reclaiming Life From Delirium” in Rhode Island, USA.

The ADS conference focuses on learning and networking with a diverse group of attendees across many disciplines and countries – each and every one striving to learn together as we improve delirium care across healthcare settings. The conference offers more than 45 symposia, workshops, roundtables, and multiple oral and poster abstract sessions. Internationally recognized faculty will deliver cutting-edge clinical and research presentations encompassing all aspects of delirium care!

Siriraj Faculty Abroad at ISICEM 2023 in Belgium

During March 19th – 26th, 2023, Asst. Prof. Onuma Chaiwat, a Vice-Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the annual meeting “42nd Internacional Symposium on Intensive Care& Emergency Medicine” in Brussels, Belgium, to present a poster presentation on the topic “Long-term Outcomes of Delirium in Critically Ill Surgical Patients: A Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study.” This attendance of Asst. Prof. Onuma will implement the prevention protocol to attenuate poor long-term outcomes for Siriraj Hospital!

The International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine is organized in collaboration with the Departments of Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine of Erasme University Hospital, Université Libre de Bruxelles, and with the Belgian Society of Intensive Care Medicine (SIZ). The meeting is held every year in March, starting in 1980, to provide participants with up-to-date reviews of the most recent, clinically relevant, developments in research, therapy, and management of the critically ill. The meeting is open to all physicians, nurses, and other health professionals interested in critical care or emergency medicine and attracts more than 6,200 participants from countries worldwide.
