The Asian Prosthetic and Orthotic Scientific Meeting 2018 (APOSM)
On November 7, 2018, Prof. Emeritus Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, Minister of Public Health, presided over “The Asian Prosthetic and Orthotic Scientific Meeting 2018 (APOSM) in conjunction with 4th ASEAN Seminar on Multi-Disciplinary Care for Children with Mobility (4th AMCM)” by the theme of “Prosthetics and Orthotics Empowering ASIA”at Narai Hotel, Silom, Bangkok together with the respected ambassadors of Cambodia, Malaysia and Sweden. In addition, Prof. Dr. Prasit Watanapa, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University also served as an invited speaker to deliver a special lecture in the topic of “Overall healthcare and PO services in Thailand Overall of Healthcare in Thailand.”
Assoc. Prof. Nisarat Opartkiattikul, Director of Sirindhorn School of Prosthetics and Orthotics, Chair of APOSM 2018 Organization Committee stated that this scientific meeting was the cooperation between Sirindhorn School of Prosthetics and Orthotics, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital and International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (Thailand) with support from Zy Movement Foundation and Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB). The meeting majorly aimed to exchange and update the new knowledge and technology between professionals in prosthetic and orthotic field form all over the world. There were more than 300 participants from over 20 countries such as Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Cambodia, Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, and more. The attendees shall achieve various knowledge to apply to the patients and also develop new sciences for the future of the person with disability and our society. Invited speakers from 11 countries have contributed excellent lecture from topics. For example, “Overview of ISPO Work Globally” by Assoc. Prof. Friedbert Kohler (Australia), President of ISPO and “Complex Prosthetic Rehabilitation: Hip Disarticulation and Hemipelvectomy” by Assoc. Prof. Karen Andrews (USA) from Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.
